George Dale Sweet, 91, of Washington, IN, passed away on July 26, 2024 at Eastgate Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation with his family by his side.
He was born on August 28, 1932, to the late William Everette & Lilly Ruth (Perkins) Sweet in Daviess County, IN.
Dale was a 1950 graduate of Washington High School. Following high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. After returning home from the Air Force, he attended Vincennes University and obtained an associate’s degree in electronics. On June 23, 1956, he married Sharon D. Lucas, and she preceded him in death on February 27, 2021.
He was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Washington and was proud of his faith. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus #630, and the American Legion Post #121. Dale liked to golf and watch IU Basketball (especially if it involved Bobby Knight) and the St. Louis Cardinals in his free time. He especially enjoyed walking, and he did a lot of it throughout his retirement.
Survivors of Dale include his children, Mark (Patti) Sweet of Collierville, TN, Bill Sweet of Washington, IN, and Amy (Tim) Auberry of Washington, IN; nine grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 3 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sharon; his parents William and Lilly; his son Steven Sweet; and his sisters, June Schoonover and Betty Leighty.
Visitation for Dale will be held on Friday, August 2, 2024, from 11:00-1:00pm at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, 2020 State St., Washington, IN 47501. Following the visitation, a memorial service for Dale will begin at 1:00 with Yvonne Evans officiating. Inurnment will take place following the service in St. John’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to made to the Washington Catholic Endowment Fund.
