Gerald Braun

Gerry had retired from teaching at Lincoln High School. He taught social studies, world history, and math from 1970 - 1994. Prior to that he had taught in high schools in Lowell, Calumet, and Hanover. Gerry inspired several of his students to become successful educators themselves, touching the lives of future generations. He was a graduate of Indiana State Teacher's College, earning his bachelor's degree in 1959 and his master's degree in 1962. While there he became a member of Lamda Chi Alpha Fraternity.A historian and prolific reader, he was a world traveler who pursued countless lighthouses. Gerry even published poetry about lighthouses. A 1956 graduate of Jasper High School, he had played on the school basketball team. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church at the Dubois Crossroads near Dubois, IN.Surviving are his brother, John Braun, of Jasper, IN; his nieces, Barb McAtee, of Jasper, IN, Beth King, of Evansville, IN, a nephew, Duane Chattin, of Vincennes, IN; great-nieces and nephews, including Katie Chattin and her husband, Jathan Haggard, of Indianapolis, IN, Lisa Chattin of Denver, CO; Anthony King and his wife, Laura, of Bemidji, MN, and Luke McAtee of Bloomington, IN, and special friends, Timothy Crowley and his wife, Sandy, along with their son, Chris, and Steve Siner and his wife, Carol Anne.Born May 16, 1938 in Dubois County, IN, he was the son of William and Amelia (Angerer) Braun. His parents; his niece, Brenda Chattin; and his sister-in-law, Pat Braun, preceded him.Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 5:00 - 7:00, at the Goodwin - Sievers Funeral Home, Gardner Brockman Chapel, 505 Main Street, Vincennes, IN (masks required). A graveside service will be held on Thursday, at the St. John Lutheran Church at the Dubois Crossroads Cemetery, 5015 E.
