Gertrude "Trudy" L. Vanderbeck, 75, of Wheatland, went to be with the Lord at 2:23 am on Monday, July 22, 2019 at Good Samaritan Hospital.She was born June 19, 1944 in Evanston, Illinois to Roy and Edna (Mather) Totten.Trudy retired as an English professor in 2002 from Vincennes University and had also taught in Quincy, Florida. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Washington where she served as an Elder and was very active in the Ohio Valley Presbytery. Trudy was an extraordinary grammarian and was passionate about her family. She enjoyed traveling to new places, watching all kinds of women's sports, sewing, reading, and listening, singing or playing all sorts of music.Those surviving to cherish Trudy's memories are her loving husband of almost 53 years, John Vanderbeck; her children, David Vanderbeck and his wife Kathy of Carmel; Laura Vanderbeck and her partner Mary Ann Slinn of Indianapolis; a sister Louise Totten of Henderson, NV; a sister-in-law Cindy Totten Lieving of Tampa, FL; a niece Frances Totten Hamblin and her two grandchildren who were the light of her life, Katrien and Kendalyn Vanderbeck.She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Tim Totten.A Celebration of Trudy's Life will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, July 27, 2019 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Washington with Rev. Cheryl Thorne officiating. Friends may visit with the family from noon until the start of the service. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
