Gladys Phillips

Gladys E. (Godare) Phillips, 90, of Pinellas Park, Florida and a native of Vincennes, Indiana died Sunday, August 30, 2015 at Gentle Care. Gladys was born to David and Emma Godare (Schultz) on August 20, 1925.She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1943. She proudly associated with her high school classmates and remained close friends to many throughout her years. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at St. John's United Church of Christ.In 1947 Gladys married John Bill Johanningsmeier, who preceded her in death in 1962. She was employed at Western & Southern Life Insurance Company as a clerical secretary. She married Charles A. Phillips, a Princeton, Indiana native, in 1978. Gladys and Charlie moved to Pinellas Park, Florida. where they enjoyed their retirement years. Charlie preceded her in death in 2011. Gladys was an active bridge player, enjoyed square dancing and playing golf, and was a 50+ year member of the Order of Eastern Star.Gladys loved to read, engaged in sewing projects, and worked jigsaw puzzles. She adored her family and enjoyed the time spent with each one. She had 18 grandchildren and 23 great grand children and many nieces and nephews.Survivors include her children; John Bill Johanningsmeier (Linda) of Danville, Illinois. Jerri Johanningsmeier of Vincennes, Jim Johanningsmeier (Debbie) of Germantown Hills, Illinois, Jill Lopez (Hank) of Vincennes. Jane Brown ( Dale) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Jo Lea Tarrh of Dallas, Texas, and also, stepsons Tyk Phillips (Beverly) Powder Springs, Georgia and Mike Phillips of Princeton Indiana. Brother-in-law Harold Johnson (Mary Lou) Sandusky, Ohio also survives.Preceding her in death are brothers Paul Godare (Dorothy), Wilbur Godare (Louise), sisters, Helen Perryman (Jess) and Elzora Johnson.A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 6 at 3:00 p.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ. Family will be available for condolences beginning at 2:00 prior to the service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the St. John's United Church of Christ Memorial Fund.
