Gloria Van Eaton

Gloria J. Van Eaton, 79, longtime resident of Vincennes, IN, died on December 20, 2011. She is survived by her loving husband, R. David Van Eaton, four children, Cynthia A. Vallimont, Vincennes, Rebecca J. Van Eaton, Indianapolis, IN, Mark D. VanEaton (Lisa) Indianapolis, IN, Deborah S. Ward (Paul), Carmel, IN and four grandchildren, Caitlin Ward, Caroline Ward, Morgan Ward, and Bailey Ward, of Carmel, IN. Gloria was born on November 26, 1932 , in Lawrenceville, IL, to the late Roy E. and Hallie R. Jacobs. She was preceded in death by her brother, John R. Jacobs. Gloria graduated from Lincoln High School, and from the Good Samaritan School of Nursing in Vincennes, IN, with an R.N. Degree. She married R. David Van Eaton on June 1, 1952, and then joined her husband, David as he completed his service in the U.S. Air Force. Upon completion of his Air Force service abroad, David graduated with a B.S. Degree in Business, from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN, then upon returning to Vincennes, he started a John Deere Farm Equipment Dealership, R.D. Van Eaton, Inc., and later founded Wabash Valley Bank, along with other entrepreneurial business endeavors. Gloria was a wife, mother, homemaker, and grandmother, and enjoyed serving others and with others in church membership and activities at Bethany Presbyterian Church, and also actively supported many Vincennes and Knox County charities, and social and community organizations from education to the arts, including the Salvation Army, the Knox County Library, Daughters of the American Revolution, Vincennes University, and the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Goodwin Funeral Home with Rev. John DeSanto officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit from 1 until the service time on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Gloria's name, may be made to Bethany Presbyterian Church, 702 N 8th, Vincennes, IN 47591 or the Gloria J. Van Eaton Scholarship program for nursing students which is administered by the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation, 520 S 7th, Vincennes, IN 47591
