Grace Winifred Milligan Vanderbeck died January 3, 2011, in Vincennes, Indiana. She was born at home in Miami, Florida, on October 2, 1924. Her parents were Robert J. and Bessie Eakins Milligan. She was married to David C. Vanderbeck for 54 years until his death in 1996.Mrs. Vanderbeck was a lifelong, devoted member of the Free Methodist Church. Her home was always open to missionaries who were passing through Miami. She supported youth events, quiz teams, and camps. She often said that her mission in life was to help others. One of her greatest joys was seeing her children graduate from college.She is survived by her children: Grace and Ted Butler of Silver Spring, MD, and John and Trudy Vanderbeck of Wheatland, IN. Also surviving are four grandchildren: David and Kathy Vanderbeck, Laura Vanderbeck, John Butler, and Rachel and Nat Hunter. Great-grandchildren are Katrien and Kendalyn Vanderbeck and Sierra and Joshua Hunter. Mrs. Vanderbeck epitomized the virtuous wife described in Proverbs 31:10. "Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life." Mrs. Vanderbeck is remembered with love.An informal visitation and memorial service will be at 2:30 Sunday afternoon, January 9, at Indiana Presbyterian Church off Highway 61 east of Vincennes. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to your church or favorite charity.
