Imo Umfleet

Imo Umfleet, 103, passed away at her residence at 12:20 am on Sunday, June 16, 2013. Imo was born on November 29, 1909 in Knox County, the daughter of Newton Y. and Mary Alice (Bitner) Yates. She married Kenneth R. Umfleet in June of 1932 and he preceded her in death on April 16, 1973. Imo was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church. She also belonged to the Fortnightly Club and Tri-Kappa and enjoyed traveling, reading and gardening. Survivors include four granddaughter's Michelle Malke, Nicole Scott, Laura Keefe, Erin Robinson; six great grandchildren; nieces, Linda Bono of Vincennes; Barbara Vosseler ofDesPlaines, IL; Annie Jo Fritgeirsson of North Brook, IL; nephew, Richard Yates of Vincennes; sister in law, Helen Yates of Vincennes caregivers, Mary Ellen Hartigan of Vincennes; Stephanie Sprinkle of Vincennes; Angie Sprinkle of Vincennes; Joann Braithwaite of Vincennes and Jackie Harker of Vincennes. Imo was preceded in death by two daughters, Sylvia McCormick and Vivian Robinson, her parents, her husband, one sister and three brothers. Graveside services will take place at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Faye Bilskie officiating. Burial will follow. There will be no visitation and Gardner-Brockman Funeral Home is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice.
