Iona Lawyer

Iona Faye Lawyer, 86, of Washington, passed away January 8, 2023, with her family by her side. Born on July 30, 1936, in Glendale, IN, she was the daughter of Chester and Jennie (Clark) McCracken. She attended Montgomery High School and was a part of the 1953 graduating class. Iona began her career at Washington National Bank, and worked in banking for over 40 years eventually becoming Vice President of Old National Bank in Washington, IN. She married the love of her life, Joseph Lawyer, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, on January 6, 1957. They shared their lives together in Washington for nearly 50 years before his passing in 2006. Iona was a charter member of the Princess Craft Club which began in 1961. She was also a member of RSVP. Iona enjoyed many things in life such as playing cards, crafts and sewing, reading, watching her grandchildren play sports, spending time with her family, making her famous cookies, and watching the St. Louis Cardinals, Purdue and NASCAR. Iona will be deeply missed by all. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 49 years Joseph Lawyer; and brother-in-law Ramon Adams. Iona is survived by her sons Randall L. (Beverly) Lawyer and Jay M. Lawyer both of Washington, IN; granddaughters Ashley F. (Maegan) Pickett of Los Angeles, California, and Amy J. (Chad) Batton of Washington, IN; great-grandsons Bode Batton, McCoy Batton and Walker Pickett; siblings Jack (Marian) McCracken of Washington, IN, Joan Adams of Washington, IN and Sandra (Thomas) Davis of Monroe, GA. Goodwin-Sievers is honored and entrusted with the care of Mrs. Lawyer. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 12, 2023, at 2020 State St. Washington, IN from 4-7pm and January 13, 2023, from 10-11am. Services will be held Friday, January 13, 2023, at 11am with burial at Sugarland Memory Gardens immediately following.
