I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 1 Timothy 4:7.Jackie Doyle Tabler Jr., 77, devoted husband and beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and loyal brother was called to his heavenly home on Friday, September 22 with his family by his side.Jack was born to Doyle Wilbur (Jack) and Mary Hildred (Webster) Tabler on May 13, 1940 in Vincennes.He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Beverly Thompson Tabler, and his three daughters, Jackie and her husband Curtis Horton of Carlisle, and their children, Kaylissa (Horton) and husband Luke Halter, Amber Horton, and Lyndze (Horton) and husband Derick Lambdin, Michelle and her husband Gary Hackney of Vincennes and their children, Dr. Kaci (Alexander) and husband Dr. Matthew Smith, and Drew and wife Bryn Alexander, Stacey Wilson, from Vincennes, and her children, Jessica (Wilson) and husband Darren Miller, and Hunter Wilson, and one son, Chad and his wife Meagan Tabler from Brazil and their children, Wyatt and Garrett. Also, great-grandchildren, Evan and Delaney Miller, Clayton Halter and scheduled to arrive in November, Baby Smith. Also surviving is one brother, Mike Tabler from Vincennes.Jack was preceded in death by his father and mother and one nephew, Jeremy Tabler.In 1996 Jack retired from Public Service of Indiana, Gibson Generating Station (Duke Energy) where he had worked for 28 years. At the power plant he served as operations shift supervisor. He also spent several years driving semi-tractor trailers hauling grain and other products. Jack also worked as security guard and valet parking attendant at Good Samaritan Hospital.Jack served his country through military service as a sharpshooter with the Indiana National Guard for a period of 13 years achieving the rank of E-6.Jack loved the outdoors, was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. He enjoyed camping and deer hunting with his friends and son each year. He especially enjoyed having the latest and best hunting equipment, supplies and firearms he could afford. A particular hobby Jack enjoyed was reloading his own ammunition.Jack loved being around family and church friends for reunions and big dinners. His stories, laughter and wit were entertaining to everyone who knew him.Of utmost importance to Jackie however was his faith. He had a deep commitment to Jesus Christ and strived to witness to others and live as an example of his Christian belief. He was deacon, trustee, Sunday school superintendent, and lay leader of Heritage Baptist Church in Vincennes.Services for Jackie D. Tabler Jr. will be 10:00 am Tuesday September 26, 2017 at Goodwin Funeral Home with Mike Lowe officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park cemetery with visitation from 4-8 pm Monday at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Heritage Baptist Church.
