James Robert "Tick" Coonrod, 93, of 5005 South Monroe School Road, Monroe City, passed away on April 14th at his residence.The son of Dennis Pennington and Bessie (Sanders) Coonrod, he was born in Monroe City on July 1, 1919.After serving in the Navy in World War II, he worked for Republic Airlines in Evansville. His business of 60 years, The Pool Room, was a local restaurant in Monroe City where they served the best cheese burgers and cherry cokes in Knox County. Tick was a very generous man to his community, always helping families in need. All kids that went to the pool room never left without lots of bubble gum and candy bars. An avid sports fan, Tick enjoyed listening to the Chicago Cubs, Indiana Hoosiers basketball, Indiana Pacers, and the Indianapolis Colts.Surviving is his family, a son, Jerry Coonrod and his wife, Georgianna of Vincennes; and three grandchildren, Angela Coonrod, Andrea Coonrod, and Eric Coonrod.Preceding in death were his parents, his wife of 59 years, Mary Frances (Leech) Coonrod, whom he married April 15, 1938, a son, Jan Michael Coonrod, a grandson, Mark Coonrod, a brother, D.P. Coonrod Jr. and a sister, Virginia Coonrod Mize.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2013 at Goodwin Funeral Home with Rev. Fred Harrison officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 Thursday and from 10:00 a.m. until the service time Friday.
