James Bernard Durnil, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday December 12, 2024. 

Jim went to Washington Catholic, transferred to WHS as a senior and graduated in 1961 - and then he went onto Vincennes University - He was drafted into the army in the summer of 1967 - he was 23 years old. He served in Vietnam from 1968-69. Jim was a Sargent and he earned many accolades and medals in his time in the service. He was a member of the American Legion, the VFW and the Eagles. Jim retired from Crane, where he worked after being a salesman at Sears - he loved IU basketball, working on cars, traveling, road trips, early mornings, walking on the beach, and spending his winters in Ft. Walton beach, FL.

Jim was born to Lucille and Harold Durnil, on November 26, 1943 both deceased, both of Washington, IN. He is preceded in death by his brother, Edwin Durnil, and both his mother and father. Jim has 4 living siblings: Robert (Shirley) Durnil, Judy (Tom) Wagner, Margaret (Loren- deceased) Shirley, and John (Barbara) Durnil- he had many nieces and nephews. Jim leaves behind 3 children and 7 grandchildren: Jeff Durnil, wife Andrea, and their children, Ben and Katie Durnil. Lisa Haseman, husband, Craig Haseman, and their children, Nick, Josie, Izzy, and Annie Haseman. Kathy Durnil and her daughter, Avery Durnil Wilkerson. Also, his longtime companion, Kathy Mider, and her son, Kyle Mider.

Visitation for Jim will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, from 10:00-11:00am ET at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church 315 NE 3rd St, Washington, IN 47501. A funeral mass will begin immediately following visitation at 11:00am. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Washington with full military honors.
