Jane Lavassaur

May 7, 1942 — June 1, 2024

Mary "Jane" LaVassaur died peacefully at her home in Washington, IN surrounded by family and her beloved dogs at the age of 82. She was born in Washington, IN on May 7, 1942 the daughter of Richard and Thelma (Wathen) Mischler. She married Richard LaVassaur and he preceded her in death in 2014.


Jane had a very kind heart with a wonderful sense of humor. She always had a smile, joke or compliment for everyone she came across and she did her best to brighten their day and put a smile on their face. Her life has taken her on many journeys, but she was so happy to come back to her hometown of Washington in 1994 where she truly felt at home.


She was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Hope (St. Simon's) Catholic Church. She graduated from Washington Catholic High School in 1960 and was proud to be a member of the Spotlight Press Club. She worked at Four Rivers Resource Services and loved the clients she helped and always had fond memories of them. She also worked for the Washinton Township Trustee Office.


Jane loved to ride motorcycles with her husband and together they spent many years at Montgomery Campground where they had a lot of great Turkey Trot parties and memories.


Survivors include her sons, Steve Haag, Stuart (Reonna) Haag; daughter, Jamie Holubasch; brother Mike (Erma) Mischler; sister-in-law, Joella Mischler; grandchildren, Chrystal Haag, Alanna Haag, Austin Haag; her great grandson, Dillon (Madison) Haag; nieces and nephews, Matt (Ann) Mischler, Amy (Brian) Guillaume, Kevin (Lee Ann) Mischler, Lisa (Keith) Grossman, Joe (Becky) Mischler, Jeff (Elaine) Mischler, great nieces and nephews Parker, Carter and Cate Mischler and she shared a special mutual love with Emma and Olivia Guillaume. Her dogs she loved dearly Willow and Abby. Jane is preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Thelma Mischler, her husband Richard LaVassaur, brother, Richard Mischler, son, Scott Haag, granddaughter Sarah Jane Haag and her son-in-law Mark Holubasch.


Friends may visit with Jane's family from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm on Friday, June 7, 2024 at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, 315 NE 3rd St., Washington, IN 47501. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation at 12:00 pm at the church with Rev. Paul Ferguson and Yvonne Evans celebrating. Jane will be laid to rest in St. John Cemetery next to her husband. in lieu of flowers the LaVassaur family request memorial contributions be made to St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church or Heart to Heart Hospice.
