Jerald Roberts

Jerald D. Roberts, 73, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2021. He was born May 15th, 1947 in Johnson, Indiana to the late John Earl Roberts and survived by his mother Imogene Roberts, his children Jason (Cheryl) Roberts of Thornton, Colorado, and Jennifer (Geoff) Ruckel of Salt Lake City, Utah. He also has five grandchildren Kendall Roberts, Jonah Roberts, Jerald "JJ" Roberts, Gus Ruckel, and Owen Ruckel. Jerald graduated from Owensville High School in 1965 and earned his bachelor's degree from University of Evansville and master's degree from Indiana State University. He moved to Jasper with his late wife Jane Lankford Roberts in 1970 to start his career at Jasper Middle School. He retired in 2009 as the proud Principal of Jasper High School. With a warm smile and quick wit, Jerald knew how to make anyone he met feel at ease, and in the community of Jasper he found many life-long friends who he greatly cherished. Sharing a joke and a laugh with friends was one of his favorite pastimes, along with his love of sports. He loved sports in general, but in particular he was passionate about the Jasper Wildcats. No matter which sport, Jerald was their number one fan and could tell you many statistics about the current or past players. Over the years, he coached Jasper Middle School football and basketball, Jasper High School baseball, and was a scout for the Jasper High school football team. He spent his free time watching various games live and on TV and he thoroughly enjoyed Formula 1 and Nascar racing. After the passing of his beloved Jane in 2005, Jerald was blessed with another wonderful companion, Carolyn Loveless of Princeton, Indiana. Together they enjoyed many years visiting their respective children and grandchildren, and making each other smile. The Roberts family will always be grateful for the love Carolyn extended to Jerald and each of them. A special thank you to the people at St Charles Health Campus in Jasper, Indiana and Kindred Hospice for their loving care and support during his final days. Also, the family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude towards his many loving friends who have continued to bless Jason and Jennifer with their cherished memories of Jerald and Jane.
