Jerry Allen Hinkle, 84 of Vincennes, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, surrounded by his family, on December 11, 2021, following a hard-fought battle with sarcoma. Jerry is the son of John Sr and Lela (Todd) Hinkle. He married Donna Koenig on February 25, 1961, and together they raised 5 children. He was a graduate of Decker High School and Purdue University. Following a short teaching stint in Crawfordsville, Jerry came home to the suburbs of Iona to work the Hinkle family farm. Jerry's passion was talking with people and finding a connection with them, often telling them his "God Story." He was often the last person to leave the church building following worship services, and frequently sat down with a complete stranger in a restaurant and got to know everything about them by the time the meal was over. He was quietly generous with his time, money, and friendship. A member of the Vincennes Free Methodist Church, Jerry served on numerous committees. Jerry and Donna went on seventeen mission trips to Haiti, Mexico, and El Salvador, where they helped build church/school buildings, making sure that each of their children made at least one mission trip. Surviving Jerry are his wife of 60 years, Donna; children Trent (Heidi), Troy (Stacy), Tony (Leigh), and Tammy (Jay) Yochum, all of Vincennes; grandchildren Hannah (David) Swank, Sunny (Evan) Barmes, Ashley (Calvin) Smith, Evan Woodard, Luke (Caylee) Yochum, Emily, Harrison Mac, Matthias, and Abigail Hinkle, Evey, Gabe, and Cora Dodd; and great grandchildren Laura, Andrew, and Jillian Swank, Hartley and Hazel Smith, Addie and Avery Yochum, and Sullivan and Gemma Barmes; siblings Phoebe JoAnn Ivers, Nancy Cobb, Todd (Suzanne), Roger (Kathy) and Jack Hinkle and many generational family members. Preceding him in death were his parents, a daughter Trena Louise Woodard, and brothers Harlan and John Hinkle Jr. Friends may visit with Jerry's family from 4-7 pm on Friday, December 17, 2021 at Free Methodist Church, 1423 N. 4th St., Vincennes, IN and from 10 am until the hour of service time of 11:00 am on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at the church. Pastor Irwin Bales will officiate and Jerry will be laid to rest in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to International Child Care Ministries or Good Samaritan Hospice.
