Jess Hendershot

September 3, 1937 — June 30, 2024

Jess Hendershot, peacefully passed away at BridgePointe Health Campus on June 30, 2024, at the age of 86. Born on September 3, 1937, in Vincennes he is the son of Jess N. and Esther Hendershot. He married Charleen Grannan on August 3, 1957, and she preceded him in death on June 1, 2022.


Jess proudly served his community as a dedicated manager of Kroger/Jay C Food Stores before his well-deserved retirement. He was a valued member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Parish and was also an active participant at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.


Throughout his life, Jess was a cherished member of various organizations, including the Knights of Columbus and the Moose Lodge. His passion for sports, cooking, and gardening brought him immense joy and fulfillment over the years.


Left to cherish his memory are his loving children, Jeff Hendershot and his wife Gara Lee; Jerry Hendershot and his wife Terri; Susan Hendershot; his grandchildren, Taylor Hendershot, Kaedy Hendershot, Ashlee Montgomery, Cassidy Hendershot, Madison Jo Hendershot- Martin, Jaden Hendershot, Colten Leehy, several great grandchildren; his siblings, Bonnie Tooley, Peggy Flowers, Glen Hendershot and Esther Abel. Jess is preceded in death by his parents, Jess N. and Esther Hendershot, wife, Charleen Hendershot, his daughter, Terri Lee Hendershot and his siblings, Jim Hendershot, Marge Hobbs, Mary Emma Wyant, Jackie Ballow, Kay Davis and Bob Hendershot.


Friends may visit with Jess's family from 5-8 pm on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2004 N. 2nd St., Vincennes, IN 47591. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am by Rev. Tony Ernst on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Jess will be laid to rest next to his wife Charleen in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery. The Hendershot family has requested memorial contributions be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
