James “Jim” L. Bruner, age 87, of Washington, Indiana, passed away peacefully at Deaconess Gateway hospital in Evansville, Indiana on Sunday, September 10, 2023. He was born February 17, 1936 to the late Eugenia “Jean” (Wade) and Francis “Frank” J. Bruner.
Jim was a 1956 graduate of Washington Catholic High School. After graduating from Elkhart University as a certified Dental Technician, he married Joyce “Joy” M. Serbenski on May 16, 1959 in Paw Paw, Michigan. Jim and Joy then settled in Evansville where he started Bruner Dental Lab. While living in Evansville for many years, he and his family attended Holy Rosary Catholic Church contributing and participating in several programs and events including the Men’s Club and Scouts.
He was preceded in death by his wife Joy and sister Frances “Fran” Fitch. He is survived by sons James Michael (Gisela) Bruner of Evansville, John D. Bruner of Clarkston, Michigan, Jeffery M. (Karon) Bruner of Evansville, and his daughter Joyjean M. Simpson (Brian Bradley) of Henderson, Kentucky. He is also survived by grandchildren Jacob (Mercedes “Sadie”) Bruner, 1st Lt. Anthony “AJ” Bruner USMC, and Austin (Mackenzie) Bruner. His great grandchildren include Seth, Raelynn, and Cash Bruner.
Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 pm EDT, Friday, September 22 at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home in Washington, Indiana. www.goodwinsieversfh.com. Prayers and Rosary is from 7:00 to 8:00 pm EDT.
Visitation will continue from 9:30 to 10:30 am EDT, Saturday, September 23 at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home followed with a procession to Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Washington, Indiana where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am EDT. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery also in Washington.
