Jimmie Morrison

Jimmie Lee Morrison, 79, passed with his wife by his side on February 4, 2023. He was born to Herb and Ruby (Hagemeier) Morrison on April 22, 1943 in Bedford, Indiana. Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Thelma (Murray) Morrison; sister and brother-in-law Delores and Gary Jones; son, Michael Morrison (Regina); daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Scott Kirchoff; grandchildren are Harrison Hislip (Cydnee Witsman), Audrey Hislip (Jared DeBuisseret), Cole and Zach Kirchoff, Joshua (Sarah) Morrison and Jarek (Ashlee) Morrison. Great grandchildren Zaela, Rogan, Lilah, Ariah, Emmitt and Ledger Morrison. His niece Heather Jones and great-nephew Willem Jones. Those who preceded him in death were his parents; great grandsons, Silas and Jensen Morrison; niece, Alyssa Jones, nephew, Matthew Jones and his beloved cat Handsome. Jim found much joy in his life through his faith, his family, his friends and making the world a better place. He was kind and loving, always pleasant, and had an easy smile and forgiving spirit. He loved being involved with in VU basketball, fishing, camping, cooking, and golfing with friends. If there was cooking to be done or was a volunteer needed, Jim was there and enlisting the help of his family too. Jim was retired from First Financial Bank specializing in Agricultural Lending. He served in the Indiana National Guard. He completed OCS as first lieutenant of Co. B 1st Bn 138th Armor in 1966. Throughout Jim's life he was active in The Verne Society, 100 Men Who Cook, The Vincennes Chili Cookoff, Indiana Bankers Association Ag Committee, Indiana Human Resources Investments Council Board Member, Indiana National Guard basic training in Fort Knox where he graduated from Indiana Military Academy as 2nd Lieutenant, Indiana Workforce Investment Board Treasure, Interdisciplinary Co-Operative Education Board, Advisory Board for North Knox School Corporation where he was Chairman and Vice-Chairman, Kiwanis Club past Bicknell and past Vincennes president where he was very active in helping with the club's roasting ears of corn fundraiser at the Rendezvous, Knox County Democrat Central Committee Treasure, Knox County Chamber of Commerce Chairman, Knox County Development Corporation Board of Directors, Knox County Jail Advisory Board, Secretary of Knox County Life After Meth program, Knox County Redevelopment Commission Treasure regarding the new power plant in Edwardsport, Southwest Purdue Agriculture Center Advisory commission, Shawnee Trace Workforce Investment Board Chairman of 9 counties, Wabash Valley Coal Miners Respiratory Clinic, Friends of the Library, Genealogical Society, Knox County Ag Day Council Master of Ceremonies over 25 years, Knox County Rural Housing secretary/treasurer, Military Museum as a tour guide, Old Northwest Corporation Chairman of the Board, Shriners where he volunteered to take children to the Shriner hospitals and drove the yellow corvettes in parades, Vincennes Knox County Tourism Commission President, Workforce Investment Board, Alpha Sigma Pi House Board of Directors (He would have a hog roast at the beginning of year to welcome the students). At the Knox County Fair he could be found buying or contributing the purchase of 4H animals and setting up booths to support our county, the farmers, and the youth of the community. Basketball was near and dear to Jim's heart. He played in high school for Shawswick and was on the 1961-62 Vincennes University Men's Basketball Team. He was a member of the VU Booster Club and he kept the official VU score book for the men's and women's basketball teams for almost 30 years. He enjoyed traveling with the teams or helping scout players with Coach Harry Meeks. The players became part of Jim's family some even spent the holidays with the Morrison family. Jim also found great privilege to serve in an orphanage in Honduras. He also joined Christian Campus Fellowship leader, Scott Shipman to Joplin, Missouri to help with the vastation from the tornadoes of 2011. His grandson Harrison Hislip joined him on this mission. Doing God's work by helping others was very important to Jim. While living in Bicknell he was a member, Treasure, Co-Youth leader, and Trustee. He also coached the church sponsored baseball teams, peewee, little league, and pony. His family helped him also with preparing the field. He and his wife spent several years volunteering to keep the Bicknell city pool open for the community. Swimland had at time over 400 people in attendance. Jim found this to be very rewarding to give the children a place to have fun. He was proud to serve 15 years on the Vincennes University Board of Trustees from appointments from governors, Evan Bayh, Frank O'Bannon, and Joe Kernan. He served as vice-chairman of the Board and Co-Chair of the Finance Committee. He also represented the board on strategic planning committee and North Central Accreditation. He also received many honors. Dr. Philip Shelton Humanitarian Award by the Vincennes Kiwanis Club, Sagamore of the Wabash form Indiana Governor Joe Kernan, Distinguished Hoosier from Indiana Governor Frank O'Bannon, Volunteer of the Year Award by the Wabash Valley Coal Miners Respiratory Clinic, and the Kentucky Colonel from Governor Paul Patton. Friends may visit Jim's family from 4-6 pm on Friday, February 10, 2023 at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, 524 Broadway, Vincennes, IN. A Celebration of Jim's Life will begin at 6:00 pm at the conclusion of visitation with Pastor Dale Biehl officiating.
