Jo Ann Stevens

June 15, 1937 — October 1, 2021

Jo Ann V. Stevens passed away on October 1, 2021 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana after a long battle with numerous health issues. She was surrounded by her children and beloved brother when she left this earth. She was able to speak and leave messages for all of her grandchildren prior to her passing. Jo Ann was born on June 15, 1937 in Terre Haute, Indiana. She worked as a phone operator, librarian, teacher's assistant, and secretary before retiring from the Vincennes Community School Corporation. She was a proud graduate of Lincoln High School's class of 1955. Jo Ann enjoyed cooking, loved spending time with her friends and was an avid lover of dogs. She is survived by her children: Randy Combs (Lisa) of Milan, Indiana; Elizabeth Lee (Mark) of Helotes, Texas; and Steve Combs (Erica) of Vincennes. She loved her children, but the true joy of her life was her grandchildren, who never did any wrong in her eyes. They are Mark Alex Lee (Cristina), Lubbock, Texas; Daniel Lee, San Antonio, Texas; Mackenzie Lee, Honolulu, Hawaii; Samantha Jo Ann Lee, Denver, Colorado; Cameron Combs, Milan, Indiana; Marisa Combs, Indianapolis, Indiana; Ryan Combs, Evansville, Indiana; Evan Combs, Gainesville, Florida, and Claire Combs of Vincennes. She is additionally survived by a brother, Bob Vaughn of Lafayette, Indiana, and long-time caregiver, Jody Cardinal. She was also very fond of her nieces and nephew, Jennifer Riehle, Melanie Vaughn-Stout and Darin Vaughn. Jo Ann loved life. She was the ultimate supporter of her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and she was also a huge supporter of all things Lincoln Alice. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Gus" Stevens, her mother Dorothy Vaughn, father LeRoy Vaughn, brother Jim Vaughn, nephew Brian Vaughn, and daughter-in-law Jennifer Combs. Friends may visit with Jo Ann's family on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, 524 Broadway, Vincennes, Indiana from 4-7 pm. Jo Ann's funeral service will begin at 7:00 pm at the conclusion of visitation on Tuesday at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Lincoln High School student activity fund that supports all young men and women who attend the public high school in Vincennes.
