Joanna Smith

Joanna L. Smith, 88, of Bushnell, IL went to be with the Lord December 1, 2018 in Princeton, IN. She was born October 10, 1930 in Bushnell, IL to the late Lewis Rouse and Josephine (Mason) Rouse. Joanna was a Licensed Practical Nurse for 20+ years at McDonough District Hospital before she retired. She was truly passionate about nursing and was known to pass out TLC to anyone that needed it. Joanna was a member of First Baptist Church in Bushnell, IL, Jolly 20, the Grandmothers Club, and served on the food pantry board. She relocated from Bushnell, IL to Princeton, IN in 2015. Joanna was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing. She had a love of baking and was known to always be busy with a new recipe or making someone a treat. Joanna loved spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Lewis and Josephine Rouse; husband Russell "Smitty" Smith; siblings Isabelle Rouse, Edna Ludwig, Harry Rouse, and Dale Rouse; and Son- in-law Tom Messmer. Joanna is survived by her daughters Donna (Jim) Keller and Betsy Messmer; 6 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at River Oaks Health Campus and Southern Care Hospice for the compassionate care they provided. They never had to worry and always knew Joanna was in good hands. Memorial contributions can be made to Southern Care Hospice or Bushnell Food Pantry. Holder's Funeral Home is honored and privileged to be entrusted with the care of Mrs. Smith. Cremation was chosen by the family and performed by the staff of Holder Funeral Home in Owensville, IN. A Celebration of Life will take place December 29, 2018 at Bushnell Recreation Center from 1p-3p.
