Joe Phillips

Joe Allen Phillips, 84, of Flora, IL went to be with the Lord October 10, 2020. He was born March 4, 1936 in Gibson County, IN to the late Hearl Phillips and Lillie Dike Phillips. Joe graduated from Owensville High School in 1954. He married his soulmate, Shirley Sue (Powers), December 2, 1953. Joe retired as a Coal miner for Peabody Coal after many years of service. He loved going fishing, traveling, and spending time with his family. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; children Karen Garrett, Samantha Marion, and Darrell Phillips; siblings Mary Ann Williams, Marvin Phillips, Donny Phillips, Betty Hancock, and Erma Lee Garrett. He is survived by his wife Shirley Sue Phillips, of nearly 67 years; children Mike Phillips, Paula (David) Huey, and Gene Phillips; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and sister Linda Spear. Holder's Funeral Home is honored and privileged to be entrusted with the care of Mr. Phillips. Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 13th from 2p-3:30p. Graveside services will be 4p at Maumee Cemetery. All those who wish to honor and remember Joe in person at the service is encouraged to wear a mask for the safety of all those in attendance. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Maumee Cemetery.
