John Amos Burke, 86 of Vincennes, passed away at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at the Lodge of the Wabash. John was born on December 20, 1926 in Knox County the son of James M. and Hazel C. (Orndorff) Burke. John married Martha Jean Goldman on March 15, 1947 and she preceded him in death on April 2, 2008.John served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and was a member of the First Church of Nazarene. He worked as a baker for Nelsons Bakery and also worked at the Vincennes Paper Mill. John was also a tree trimmer and retired for FABCO, Inc. in 1995.Survivors include his son, John E. Burke and his wife, Emma of Vincennes; daughter, Reba G. Spanger and her husband, Loy of Bicknell; grandchildren, John Andrew Burke, Mark Alan Burke, Lori Gail Spanger, Angela Nicole Fossmeyer, Camby Lynn Alton, Misty Dawn Walker, Reba Sue Petelle, Vanessa Ann Herr, eleven great grandchildren, and one brother, James Burke and his wife Deloris. John was preceded in death by three sons Gary Gene Burke, Michael Wayne Burke, Roger Lynn Burke, two sisters, Jewel Devers, Letha Mae Burke, four brothers, Lawrence Burke, Orville Burke, Alfred Burke and Melvin Doc Burke.Funeral services for John will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway, with the Rev. Mike Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with John's family from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
