John “Jack” William Granger, 86, of Washington, IN, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on July 18, 2024, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville.
He was born on June 28, 1938, to the late William E. and Martha (DeJernett) Granger in Washington.
John attended Washington High School and was a member of the 1956 graduating class. Following high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. After his time in the service, he returned home and married the love of his life, Patricia Louise (Bledsoe) Granger on January 26, 1963. Together, they had two children, Michael and Maria.
He worked for over 25 years at Duke Energy as a Boiler Operator before his retirement in 2003. He was an associate member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #101, and his church home was the Beulah A.M.E. Church in Washington. In his spare time, he loved to rabbit hunt, and play cards; especially Poker and Pinochle. He also loved to watch football with Patricia, especially the Dallas Cowboys and the Chicago Bears. Lastly, John loved music, and listened to it any time he had the chance.
Survivors of John include his children, Michael A. Granger of Vincennes, IN, and Maria Granger and her husband Steve Mennemeyer of New Albany, IN; his grandchildren, Amber (Jennifer) Wells, Jonathan Granger, and Drake Wallingford; his great-granddaughter, Journey Wallingford; his sister, Shirley Harper, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; his parents, William and Martha; and his sisters, Wilma Jean Rich, Mary Barnette, Rosetta Casey, and Pamela Kay Granger.
Per John’s wishes, he will be cremated and no public services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #101. Online condolences may be shared at goodwinsieversfh.com.
