John Jones

John W. Jones, 89, passed away at 10:14 am on May 14, 2014 at the New Willow Manor Nursing Home. John was born on June 18, 1924 in Vincennes the son of John (Jackie) and Elizabeth (Shanks) Jones. He married Amy (Jane) Barger, and she preceded him in death on September 22, 1988.John served his country during WW II in the US Army. He was a heavy equipment operator having worked for Vincennes Sand and Gravel, Mt Vernon Sand and Gravel and retiring from Lenahan and Konen. John was a member of the VFW, and American Legion. He enjoyed woodworking and helping his neighbor take care of and shape his Christmas trees. John was also a lover of animals and enjoyed visits from Cathy's dog, Molly.Survivors include his son, Johnny Jones and his wife Martha of Seymour; daughter, Cathy Jones of Bicknell; brothers, Thomas Jones of Vincennes, Robert Jones and his wife Elvera of Freelandville; sister, Robina Johnson of Vincennes; grandchildren, Kelly Jones, Laurie Reid, Jack Jones, Amy Whitesell, Susan Bowers and nine great grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his wife, Amy (Jane) Jones, daughter, Nancy Jones, brothers, George, Israel, Arthur and Archie and sisters, Margaret, Elizabeth, Barbara and Mary.Funeral services for John will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with John's family on Friday, May 16, 2014 from 4-7 pm.
