Joyce Murnahan

Joyce Boggess Moodey, 74, of Erie, Pennsylvania, formerly of Owensboro, passed away May 7, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born July 16, 1936. She graduated from Owensboro Catholic High School and Brescia College. She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Erie, PA and Blessed Mother Catholic Church in Owensboro, KY. She was an avid tennis player, enjoyed playing all types of card games, nature walks, bird watching and spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace Rumsey Boggess and Catherine Rapier Boggess and 2 sisters, Mary Catherine Johnson and Mary Joan Boggess. Survivors include a son, William Patrick Moodey, and his wife, Cerise, a daughter Catherine Moodey Doyle and her husband David, and 4 grandchildren, Kate, Aidan and Michael Moodey and Cara Doyle. She is further survived by 2 sisters, Elaine Nelson and the late Joseph Nelson, Sr. and Agnes Jonischkies and the late George Jonischkies and a brother in law, Fred Johnson. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families as Joyce always kept in touch with her extended family. Services will be 10:00am. Friday, May 13, 2011 at Blessed Mother Catholic Church in Owensboro, KY with Father John Meredith officiating. Visitation will from 4:00 pm to 8:00pm. Thursday and 8:30 am to 9:30 am Friday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home. Prayers will be 7:30 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery. Additionally a , memorial service will be held in Erie, at St. Jude Church, 2801 West 6th Street, Erie, PA on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society, 2115 West 38th Street, Erie, PA 16508. Envelopes will be made available at the funeral home.
