Judith Dhonau

Judith F. Dhonau, 78, 509 May St., Sumner, IL passed away at noon on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at BridgePointe Health Campus. Born March 18, 1933, in Winchester, IN, she was the daughter of Wilbur and Lenore (Holcroft) Friend.Judy retired from Vincennes University after working many years as the secretary in the maintenance department. She attended the Sumner United Methodist Church and was active in short term missions and helped with bible school. She was valedictorian at Dunkirk High School where she met her husband, Curtis. Judy was also active in the Republican Party in Lawrence County where she had served as precinct committeeman. She enjoyed family events and was a huge fan of her grandchildren's sports and activities. Following retirement, she and her husband traveled extensively throughout the world.Survivors include her children, Jeff Dhonau and his wife, Cathy of Vincennes, Logan Dhonau and his wife, Arleigh of Eugene, OR and Laurie Beard and her husband, Jeff of Claremont, IL; brothers and sisters, Jerry Friend of Fairview, IN, Peggy Jane Smith of Dunkirk, IN, Betty Ann Frazee of Muncie, IN and Janet Ashcraft of Muncie, IN; grandchildren, Brian Schnautz, Ben Beard, Joshua Wilkinson, Brett Beard, Gretchen Ginder, Kayla Jones and Andrew Dhonau and twelve great-grandchildren.Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Curtis A. Dhonau whom she married June 8, 1951 and passed away October 15, 1999; and daughter, Julie Tolbert.Funeral services will be held Monday, October 3 at 11:00 a.m. at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway St. with Pastor Jeff Haley officiating. Interment will follow in Upper Indiana Cemetery.
