Judith Louise Erny, 71, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014 at Good Samaritan Hospital following a lengthy illness which she dealt with by showing enormous courage.Judy was born to the late I.A. 'Tony' and Eunice Miller Ernst in Xenia Ohio on June 18 1943 and she was raised in Vincennes with her three brothers, the late David Michael Ernst, Thomas John Ernst, who still survives her, and the late Timothy Anthony Ernst.Judy was a graduate of St. Rose Academy, Class of 1962, and Indiana State University with a BS and Masters Degree in Elementary Education. In 1970 Judy married Gerald 'Jerry' Erny and together they raised two sons, Scott and Rick.Judy was an elementary school teacher in the VCSC for 33 years, spending all of those years at Vigo Elementary School. Judy was a caring and devoted wife, loving mother, daughter and sister who always put others ahead of herself. It will be this quality for which she will always be fondly remembered and cherished.Judy is survived by her husband, Jerry, her son Scott and his wife Anne, son Rick, grandsons John and Jackson Erny, granddaughter Regan Erny, brother Thomas and his wife Christina, sisters-in-law Janet Ernst and Mary Ernst and many nieces and nephews.Preceding her in death were her parents, brothers David and Tim, and niece, Emily.Family and friends will gather on Friday, Sept. 12 to pay their respects at St. John"s Catholic Church, 803 Main St. From 1 PM to 4 PM with the funeral mass of Christian Burial at 4 pm at St. John's. Goodwin Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.The family expresses their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the caring staffs of Good Samaritan Hospital, GSH Hospice, Bridgepoint Health Campus for their many kindnesses to Judy during her illness and specifically to Drs. Stutz, Hippensteel, Bartlett and Stewart.The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the choice of the donor: Good Samaritan Hospice, St. Vincent DePaul Society, and The National Shrine of St. Jude.
