Kristene Newell

Kristene R. Newell, 93, of Vincennes, IN, passed away June 9, 2020, at her home. Kristene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She loved taking care of everyone in her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed growing flowers, gardening and watching the wild birds at her many feeders. She especially loved volunteering at the hospital as a Pink Lady and at her church, St. John's United Church of Christ. Kristene delighted in decorating for and celebrating the holidays, and cooking for all of her family's celebrations. She was a devoted Pacers basketball fan and filled her later years with watching all the games. Born September 2, 1926, in Bridgeport, IL, she was the daughter of Harry Verl and Nettie (Keneipp) Simms. Her parents; her husband, John T. Newell whom she married May 15, 1949, and who passed away June 25, 2016; her sisters, Creo Wiswell, Pauline Kay, and Louise Meloan; and her brothers, Earl, Orville, Russell, Dean, and Robert Simms. Surviving are her children, Jeff Newell and his wife, Janet, of Vincennes, IN, Stephen Newell of Vincennes, IN, and Carla Schmidt and her husband, Eric, of Carmel, IN; her grandchildren, Amber Newell, Blake Newell, Emily Newell, and Dean Newell and his wife, Ashley; and her great-grandchild, Madison Newell. Friends may visit with her family from 12:00 - 2:00 on Friday, at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 2:30, at Upper Indiana Cemetery.
