Laura Smith-Shain

Laura E. Smith-Shain, 63, of Owensville, IN left this earth too soon July 24, 2021. She was born in Princeton, IN September 7, 1957 to the late Frederick Smith and Kathleen (Benson) Smith. Laura attended and was in the first graduating class of Gibson Southern High School, 1975. She married Jim "Arlo" Shain January 12, 1988. They welcomed two children shortly after. Laura attended Purdue University and received a BS in Veterinary Technology then attended and received a BS from Stephens College for Geology. She worked at Toyota in Princeton, IN for 21 years in Quality Assurance. Laura loved the outdoors and tending her garden. She enjoyed trips to Colorado, hiking, camping, and boating. Laura was passionate about horses, she was a leader of the Horse and Pony in the Gibson County 4-H. She was a member of AQHA and NSBA. Laura was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Jim "Arlo" Shain; children Alex (Anna) Shain and Olivia (Mark Brauer) Shain; and siblings Devin Smith, Courtnee (Mark) Winternheimer, George (Crystal) Smith, and Schuyler (Susan) Smith. Holder's Funeral Home is honored and privileged to be entrusted with the care of Mrs. Smith-Shain. Visitation will be held August 7, 2021 from 1p-4p at Vertical Church 415 800 S, Fort Branch, IN.
