Lawrence "Larry" "Junior" Hornbrook of Monroe City, IN, passed away August 19, 2014 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN. Larry was a 72 year member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, retiring from Local #150, in Chicago. He operated heavy equipment (draglines and shovels), working in the coal mines of Southern Indiana, Kentucky, and West Virginia. He worked on the St. Lawrence Seaway, the Cal-Sag Canal, O'Hare Airport, and the toll roads of northern Illinois, just to name a few. He especially enjoyed digging lakes. Larry was a lifetime member of the Masonic Grand Lodge of Kentucky. An avid race fan, he had owned and driven midget cars. He was an animal lover and enjoyed meeting people. Larry loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Born February 14, 1924 in Harrison Township, in Knox County, IN, he was the son of Lawrence and Lula (Perry) Hornbrook. His parents preceded him, as well as his wife, Orpha (Kelley) Hornbrook, whom he married in 1948. Surviving are his children Larry Hornbrook, and his wife Lisa, of Garden Prairie, IL, Margaret Ann Mize and her husband, Don, of Monroe City, IN, and Debbie Taylor and her husband, Dana, of Monroe City, IN; grandchildren, Donnie Mize, Michael Mize, Annette Mize, Brittany Worland and her husband, Bart, and Kenzie Taylor, all of Monroe City, IN; and his great-grandchildren, Tucker Worland, Allyson Mize, and Alaynie Mize, all of Monroe City, IN. A private family graveside service will be held at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Petersburg, IN. Online condolences may be sent to the family through goodwinfamilyfh.com.
