Lawrence Vaughn

Lawrence "Gangplank" Vaughn Jr., passed May 26, 2014, at Good Samaritan Hospital. Born May 11, 1940, in Marion, IL, he was the son of Lawrence and Wilma Allene (Bloodworth) Vaughn, Sr. They preceded him, as well as his foster parents, Ollie and Alma Huff; two grandsons, Curtis L. and Blakey T. Vaughn; a sister, Shirley Jane Vaughn; fosters brother, Marion and Jim Huff; and a foster sister, Mary Huff. Survivors include his wife, Wilma J. (O'Brien) Vaughn; Lawrence "Buddy" (companion - Liz Kemp) Vaughn III of Vincennes, Noel (Gail ) Vaughn of Murfreesboro, TN, Matt (Jeanette) Vaughn of Vincennes; a daughter-in-law, Janie (Davis) Vaughn; a brother, Thomas (Lynne) Vaughn of Hobart, IN; grandchildren Michael Blackard, Ashley Blackard, Bryce Vaughn, Jacob Vaughn, Noelle Vaughn, Gretchen Vaughn, Chase Vaughn, Nathaniel Miley Vaughn, Kirstie Horn Vaughn; great-grandchildren, Tabitha Vaughn and Hayden Blackard; foster brother Jim Huff; and foster sister, Andrea Huff. Lawrence was retired from the US Navy, where he had served on submarines. After the Navy, he went to work for Bestway, as an owner / operator. He also worked as a mechanic, and taught driver orientation. He considered himself a company man for life. Later he worked as a CDL tester for the State of Indiana, through Vincennes University. Lawrence lived for his family and friends, wanting them to be the best they could, with honor, courage, and freedom. He never met a stranger, and enjoyed golfing, fishing, drinking coffee, and spending time with his grandchildren, and his dog, BJ. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 - 8:00 on Friday, at Goodwin Funeral Home. The funeral service will be conducted at 10:30, on Saturday, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to KCSEC Life Skills at Linccoln High School.
