Leona Goffner, 72, of 816 Buntin, passed away at 11:01 a.m. Thursday, September 12, 2013 at her residence.She was born August 21, 1941 in Beulah, Mississippi to Leon and Dethel (Blackmond) Green Sr.Leona was raised in Chicago and she gave up her modeling career with Ebony magazine to move with her husband.She had worked at Willow Manor and retired from Good Samaritan Hospital after 33 years as a certified CNA. Leona was affiliated with the Second Baptist Church of which she was the Sunday School Superintendant and also affiliated with the Christ Community Church in which she enjoyed Ron Fellows sermons. She put on many biblical productions in the community and volunteered her time to read biblical stories at Willow Manor.Surviving is her daughter, H. Crystal Goffner - Campbell of Vincennes; her grandchild, James Campbell of Vincennes; her brothers and sisters all of Chicago, Rick Green, Marie Nottage, Florence Blake, Dee Arnold, Barbara Works, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James R. Goffner; two sons, Steve and Terry Goffner, and two brothers, Leon Green Jr. and Michael Green.Memorial services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Gardner Brockman Funeral Home with Ron Fellows officiating.
