Leslie H. Potts

August 10, 1943 — November 4, 2024

Leslie H. Potts, 81, of Washington, IN, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2024, at 10:45pm at The Villages at Oak Ridge in Washington, surrounded by his family.


He was born on August 10, 1943, to the late Ross W. & Mary E. (Hayden) Potts at Daviess Community Hospital in Washington, IN.


Les was a member of the 1961 graduating class at Montgomery High School. Following high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Following his service duties, he came home and met the love of his life, Mildred “Millie” Hunt, and they wed on July 27, 1968. She preceded him in death on June 16, 2022.


During his working years, Les worked as a coal miner and a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, the Glendale Masonic Lodge No. 461, the Disabled Veterans of America, and the American Legion Post #121.


Les enjoyed spending any time he had golfing, or spending time with his family. He cherished his grandchildren, and enjoyed supporting his grandkids various interests. He also enjoyed playing and competing in the family fantasy football league cheering on Indiana University Sports, and collecting pocket knives. Les had a deep love for airplanes, and also for the United States Air Force.


Survivors include his children, Brian Potts of Washington, Kim (Dustin) Van Lue of Bloomington; his grandchildren, Lindsay Potts, Brittany Potts, Dawson Potts, Samuel Van Lue, Benjamin Van Lue, and Ally Potts; his great-granddaughter, Iridessa Potts; his brothers, Robert (Donna) Potts and Curtis (Lavon) Potts; his sisters, Linda Schifano and Carol Ragsdale; and many nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Millie; his parents, Ross and Mary; and his siblings, Lowell, Herbert, Orris, Margaret, and Annette Potts.


Visitation for Les will be held on Monday, November 11, 2024, from 4:00 – 7:00pm at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home 2020 State., Washington, IN 47501. A masonic service will be held starting at 3:45pm, prior to visitation beginning. On Tuesday, November 12, 2024, a memorial service will be held at 10:30am with Pastor John Stidham officiating at Goodwin-Sievers. Cemetery services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Les.
