Lester B. Junkin, 83, 7751 E. Wheatland Rd., Vincennes, passed away at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 3, 2012 at his residence. Born November 20, 1928, in Covington, KY, he was the son of Jacob James and Helen (White) Junkin.Lester had worked at CS & I Railroad, Indiana Equipment and was later a self employed mechanic. He was a member of Worldwide Church of God and a 1947 graduate of Fritchton High School. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #73, Forty et 8 Post #107, Vincennes Eagles #384, Elks Lodge #1208 in Lawrenceville, and the American Rifle Assoc., as well as a member of the French Club in Bicknell. He was an avid motorcycle rider and he was known as The Long Rider.Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Charlotte Faye (Daffron) Junkin of Vincennes; sons, Jacob Junkin of Vincennes, John W. Junkin and his wife, Kathy, of Wheatland, and James S. Junkin and his wife, Andrea, of Vincennes; sister-in-law, Rita McGuyer of Hazleton; brother-in-law, Arthur Daffron and his wife, Jerri, of Nebo, KY; the daughter we never had, Rose Ann Kiel of Bossier City, LA; brothers, James Robert Junkin and his wife, Zola, of Vincennes and R. J. Junkin of Ragsdale; sister, Helen Faye Marchino and her husband, Thomas, of Vincennes; eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.Preceding Lester in death were his parents and one son, Timothy Allen Junkin.Funeral services will be held Friday, January 6 at 1:00 p.m. at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway St. with Pastor Don Auxiel officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
