Lloyd Salters

March 4, 1935 — February 2, 2022

Lloyd G. Salters, Jr. 86, passed away on February 2, 2022, at Willow Manor after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Lloyd was born in Ragsdale, IN, on March 4, 1935, to Lloyd H. Salters and Helen (Orr) Salters. Lloyd graduated from Bicknell High School in 1953 and attended Chicago Technical College for Mechanical Drafting. He married his high school sweetheart Lula B. Thombleson on June 6, 1954. Lloyd proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Reserve and worked as a mechanic at Thompson Chevrolet before working for Public Service of Indiana for 38 years. He was proud to be President of the New Albany Jaycee's Club in 1968. Lloyd was involved in several different sports as a coach for all 3 of his sons, including Y Football, Babe Ruth, Little League, Cub League, and American Legion baseball. He was instrumental in starting the 7th and 8th grade football for Vincennes Lincoln with Dr. Dan Combs and Howard Hatcher. He was proud to have a son who was a High School state wrestling champion in 1986 and to have two sons who play college baseball. He felt very fortunate to be a grandpa to six grandsons and one granddaughter and supported them in everything they did. Lloyd loved to travel to Florida in June for family time at Daytona Beach and Disney World and was able to do lots of traveling with his wife, sister, and her husband to several places in Europe and the United States. He was a huge Green Bay Packers fan and was able to see them play at Green Bay and was a season ticket holder for Indiana University football games. Lloyd played lots of golf but really enjoyed trout fishing. He also enjoyed helping with his class of 1953 reunions, as well as family reunions, and going to Thursday Church. Lloyds saddest day was losing his son to cancer in 2017. Lloyd was truly a lucky and blessed person who is survived by his wife, Lula Salters of Vincennes; sons, Mark Salters and his wife Chris of Sunrise, FL, Mike Salters and his wife Debbie of Vincennes; sister, Diana Barnes and her husband Ed of Petersburg, IN; daughter-in-law, Susan Salters of Helmstead, TX; his grandsons, Nicholas, Timothy and his wife Amanda, Levi and his wife Sunny, Joshua, Isaac and his wife Tori, and Elijah; his granddaughter, Zoey M. Salters; and his nine great grandchildren, Logan Hamm, Colette, Adlynn, Josie, Hadley, Samson, Vincent, Kamden, and Deacon Salters.
