Lois Mccarter

June McCarter, 106, passed away at her home on Oct. 31, 2013.She was a graduate of Illinois State University. June taught school in a one room schoolhouse in Illinois. Later in life, she worked with her daughter, Sara Ellen Smith, at Hills Department Store. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.Born June 21, 1907, in Palestine, IL, she was the daughter of Chauncey and Julia (Cobb) Wheeler. Her parents preceded her, along with her husband, Mack McCarter; her daughter, Sara Ellen Smith; and a brother, Brooks Wheeler.Surviving are her granddaughters, Michelle (Todd) Graber, and Missy Quin, both of Peoria, IL; and her great-granddaughters, Emma, Olivia, and Ava Graber, and Ellie and Carter Quin.A graveside service will be conducted on Monday, at 1:00, at Fairview Cemetery, 919 Willow Street. Goodwin Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church.
