Lorraine Richard

Lorraine Louise Richard peacefully passed away Thursday, December 3, 2015 at home with family by her side. She was born December 1, 1928 to Elmer and Martha (Kattner) Lotz at their home near Grand Ridge, Illinois. Lorraine attended schools in the area until her her family moved to a farm near Denmark, Iowa. She graduated from Denmark High School in 1946 and went to work at Sheaffer Pen Company in Ft. Madison, Iowa for two years. Lorraine enrolled in the nursing school at Burlington Protestant Hospital and graduated in 1951. She took her first RN job at Moline (Illinois) Public Hospital until her marriage to Leslie E. Richard in 1952. They made their home in Lafayette, Indiana and Lorraine worked in the surgery unit at St. Elizabeth Hospital. After the birth of their children, Lorraine worked as an RN for a physician in Lafayette. In 1964, Lorraine and Les relocated to Muncie, Indiana and raised their three children. While in Muncie, Lorraine worked for Visiting Nurse Association, Delaware County TB Association, Lifedata Medical Services and later at Chateau Convalescent Center. In 1978, they moved to Highland, Indiana where she was the office nurse for a physician in Hammond, Indiana. In 1983 a job change took them to Colorado, where she worked for an ENT surgeon in Aurora, Colorado. Both Les and Lorraine retired in 1992 and moved back to Indiana to be closer to family and settled in Vincennes, Indiana. Lorraine was a very caring, unselfish and service-oriented person. She volunteered at Good Samaritan Hospital for 20 years and loved greeting patients and visitors. Lorraine was preceded in death by Les in 2009 after 56 years of marriage, an infant son, Larry Leslie, and a brother, Gilbert Lotz.Lorraine is survived by a younger sister, Judith Thielbert in Iowa, a brother, Melvin Lotz in Utah, her children, Jane Conwell (husband Rick) of Vincennes, Edwin Richard (wife Carol) of Indianapolis, and John Richard (wife Carol) of Muncie. Lorraine is also survived by eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and two step-great grandchildren. Lorraine loved playing cards and doing crafts, especially counted cross stitch and knitting. She was a member of Community United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Heart Association.Funeral services for Lorraine will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 11, 2015 at Gardner-Brockman Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Tromley officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with Lorraine's family on Friday from Noon until the hour of the service time of 2:00 pm.
