Lourna Jean (O'Brien) Hatton, 88, of Fritchton, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 28th 2021, at 2:04 pm at Good Samaritan Hospital surrounded by family and loved ones. Born April 10th, 1933 in Vincennes, Indiana, she was welcomed into this world by the late William and Mary (Toops) O'Brien and older brother, Virgil Osha. She was married in 1951 to the late Charles T. Hatton Jr. and father to daughters Nancy Lane of Petersburg, In., Gail Pruitt of Washington, In., and Katherine Hatton of Vincennes, In. Later in life in 1973 she was married to the late Donald E. Meinhart whom she enjoyed many happy years. Jean as she was called worked various jobs throughout her life beginning in production at the Hamilton Glass Company and Essex Wire Company in Vincennes, In. She then began working in housekeeping at the Travel Lodge motel in Vincennes, IN, for which she worked for ten years and from there she was a beloved bartender at the Old Town Tavern in Vincennes, IN for ten years. But Jean's most important job was that of being a mother and mentor to her children who she adored and will be sadly missed, but never forgotten. As a young woman Jean enjoyed riding her bicycle and riding horses. Jean loved music and could often be found dancing the Jitterbug, the Charleston, and the Two Step. Her love of reading was where she discovered her talent for writing poetry and music for which she compiled an impressive collection over the years. She had a knack for raising beautiful plants and flowers and enjoyed canning fruits and vegetables from her garden. Bingo was another favorite pastime. Jean loved to travel and feel the wind in her hair. She could often be found sitting in her porch swing watching and listening to the rain, laughing, and telling stories with her loved ones and friends. Jean will be sadly missed by a great number of people. Jean is survived by her three daughters: Nancy, Gail, and Kathe; three grandchildren: Autumn Hatton, Amber Hatton, and Chase Meade; and six great-grandchildren: Alexis Eller, Honey Ralston, Broady Hathhorn, Marley Ralston, Hannah Hatton, and Donivan Hatton. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, July 6th 2021 at the Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Vincennes, In. with Father Dennis Latta performing the ceremony. Family will receive friends from 1:00 until the service at the cemetery.
