Lucy White

March 26, 1939 — September 8, 2024

Louise Ann White, formerly from Orange Park, FL, better known as Lucy, went to her heavenly home at 11:06 a.m. on Sunday, September 8, 2024, while her son Chris was reading God's Word to her. Something they did each day he visited with her. She had been a resident of The Villages of Oak Ridge in Washington, IN since November 2023, suffering from dementia.

Lucy was born March 26, 1939, the daughter of Robert and Helen Huffine in Evansville, IN. Lucy married the love of her life, Charles LaMell (Charlie) White on September 28, 1958, and they made a life together for 65 years. Lucy and Charlie were blessed with four children, 9 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.

Lucy was for the most part, a stay-at-home mom, working hard to bring up their four children while Charlie worked. She loved being a mom, a grams, and a great grams. Throughout her years, she would assist Charlie at various food shows that he did, she enjoyed setting up the displays for him and meeting the people. She also worked in the food service industry for a few years setting up special displays in various grocery stores throughout Florida. She then found her passion, working with special needs children at Ridgeview Elementary School in Orange Park, FL as a Special Needs Teacher Assistant. Something she did for nearly 18 years before retiring. After retiring, Lucy became a full-time babysitter for her great granddaughter, Savannah, something she loved up until the time Savannah entered preschool. She was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church in Orange Park, FL where she was actively involved in the church choir, as well as the crochet club. Lucy was also a member of the Orange Park Community Choir, putting on special chorales throughout the year.

Besides for her love for singing, Lucy enjoyed crocheting, making afghans for anyone who wanted or needed one. You would never find her sitting idle. She enjoyed collecting things such as books, bears, both stuffed and figurines, especially the Quarry Critters, wine bottles and toppers. She also loved working word search puzzles. She was most comfortable in her home being surrounded by pictures of her family.

Lucy is survived by her sons, Chris (Deb) White of Washington, IN, Tim (Robin) White of Atlantic Beach, FL, Pete (Carla) White of Vincennes, adopted granddaughter, Tosha (TC) Crawford of Middleburg, FL, 8 other grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. A brother, Tom (Brenda) Huffine of Atlantic Beach, FL, and a sister, Jayne Hart of Chapel Hill, TN, and a whole host of special friends. Lucy was preceded in death by the love of her life, Charlie, her only daughter, Sara White, her parents, Robert and Helen Huffine, and a brother, Donnie Huffine.

Per Lucy's request, she will be cremated and there will be no public service. A private family service will be held at a later time. Her family requests that you remember Lucy for her love for life and her love for her family. Anyone is encouraged to share photos, condolences, and other remembrances of Lucy on the tribute wall at www.goodwinsieversfh.com. Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home is privileged and honored to be entrusted with the care of Lucy and her family.
