Luella Emma (Pieper) Stodghill passed away on Christmas Eve 2020. She was 90.Lue graduated from Freelandville High School and Lockyear's Business College. She worked for Eastern Airlines in St. Louis after graduation. She married Paul Stodghill on November 12, 1950 at Bethel Church in Freelandville, Indiana.Lue loved camping, working in her roses, and entertaining friends and family at her home. She was an outstanding cook and everyone loved her holiday cookie and candy trays. Lue worked at South Knox Elementary School as their secretary for 30 years. Everyone there could recognize "Mrs. Stodghill" from her high heels clicking on the floor as she walked up and down the stairs at SKE. She made it a point to always dress to the nines with her matching purses, earrings and shoes. "Mrs. Stodghill" was known to hundreds of school children that passed through South Knox elementary school and she was always touched when she was out in the community and someone would call out her name, asking if she remembered them and wanting to tell her about their life now.She was a Beta Sigma Pi life member and St. John's United Church of Christ in Vincennes was her church for 70 years. While there, she taught Sunday School and Bible School. Lue was a youth leader with her husband Paul, helped with church luncheons, and was in charge of church greeters for over 20 years. Many of St. John's congregation have said that Lue was the first person to greet them and make them feel comfortable when they started coming to church.Lue is survived by her daughter Sheri Stodghill, son Greg Stodghill and his wife Jeannie, grandchildren Kristan, Seth and Melinda and great grandchildren Mavrick, Race, Meela, Beckett and Cruise. Lue's husband Paul, her parents, Julius and Hulda (Tilly) Pieper, as well as a sister, Joan Root, preceded her in death. Her brother Leroy Pieper lives in Bicknell, Indiana.There will be no visitation at this time. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Goodwin Sievers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made in her name to the South Knox Education Foundation, 6116 East State Road 61, Vincennes, Indiana 47591.
