Lyndol Myers

February 2, 1939 — March 18, 2021

Rex Myers passed away on Thursday March 18th, 2021 at 11:05 am at his residence in Washington.Rex was born February 2, 1939 in Washington to Arnold and Bessie (Adams) Myers. He was the youngest of five siblings.Rex attended Jefferson Township Elementary School through grades 1-8. He attended Washington High and graduated in 1957. After high school Rex obtained an Associate of Science degree from Vincennes University in 1959. He then went on the earn his Bachelor of Science degree from Oakland City University before earning his master's degree in Education from Indiana State University in 1967.Rex spent 42 year teaching the youth of our community. He taught history at various schools, Jefferson, West End, Washington Junior High School, and Washington High School. His favorite subject to teach was American History. Rex served the Washington Carnegie library Board of Trustees for 16 years, 15 being president. In 1988 he was recommended for the County Historian and served for 35 years. During that time Rex wrote a two-volume history of Daviess County and 18 oral histories of residents.On August 11th, 1990, Rex was married to Linda S. Gere and they spent thirty years together happily married.Rex was a member of the Washington Civitan Club, Kiwanis International, Daviess County Historical Society, Indiana Historical Society, Central Christian Church, Christ United Methodist Church, Daviess-Martin Retired Teachers, Indiana State Teachers Association, and the Indiana Retired Teachers Association.Surviving Rex is his wife, Linda, of Washington, children; Kevin Myers, Shelly Myers Meyer, and John Gere, brother; Arnold (Bud) Myers, ten grandchildren, one great granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews. Rex was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Lodena Summers and Alice Gray, and brother Sam Myers.Visitation for Rex will be held Saturday, March 27th, 2021 at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, 2020 State St. Washington, IN from 1:00 - 4:00pm. A funeral service will follow at 4:00pm with Rev. Jerry Turner officiating. Rex will be laid to rest in Oak Grove Cemetery.
