Mae Virginia Thomas, 93, formerly of Colonial Assisted Living, passed away peacefully at 10:50 pm, Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Gentle Care Nursing Home with her family by her side.She was born in Thayer, Indiana to Nikolas and Christine (Vanderploughe) Kramer on May 7, 1924. Soon after she moved to Midlothian, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, where she grew up. Mae graduated from Thornton Township High School in Harvey, Illinois in 1942. After graduation she worked in the office for the Rock Island Railroad in downtown Chicago. In 1948 they moved to Vincennes, making Vincennes their home.Mae retired after 20 years from Hamilton Glass where she had been Executive Administrative Assistant and was known as the Voice of Hamilton. An active member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church, she and her husband sang in the choir. Her other memberships included the Meadowlark Homemakers Club and was a charter member of the Ouabache Heritage Chapter of the American Business Women's Association. She enjoyed reading, knitting, and cooking, and she was known for her apple and cherry pies, and volunteered at Vincennes University Foundation and Alumni Office.Surviving are her children, Beverly and Kenneth Osborn of Vincennes, Bonnie and Kenneth Pawlitz of St. Louis, Barbara Thomas of Indianapolis, and Ron and Janell Thomas of Vincennes; her grandchildren Kimberly (Kevin) Minor, David (Caitlin) Mooney, Robert (Courtney) Osborn, Jeffrey (Sarah) Thomas, Gregory Thomas, Katie (Justin Hatmaker) Pawlitz, and Jeffery Pawlitz; and her great grandchildren, Isabella Helwig, Charlotte Mooney, and one more on the way.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Kenneth Thomas, whom she married in 1946 and preceded her on July 27, 2001; along with six brothers and sisters.Private Funeral services were held.
