It is with great sadness that the family of Margaret H. (Ruppel) Halter announces her death on October 23, 2020.Margaret was born on April 7, 1929 in Knox County, Indiana to Clarence and Bernice (Horsting) Ruppel. Margaret graduated from Saint Rose Academy in the class of 1947. She was a member of the Saint Francis Xavier Alter Society. She was an active member and devoted catholic. She enjoyed making alter cloths and was on the picnic committee for the church/parish.Starting at a young age, Margaret worked for Indiana Bell Telephone Company, was employed at Clarks Discount Store and devoted 25 years at Gates Bridal. In addition to her career, she also volunteered as a Pink Lady for Good Samaritan Hospital.She was a devoted wife, mother, matriarch, grandmother, great grandmother, and great- great grandmother. Her legacy will continue. Family gatherings with Margaret included cheesy soup, rum slush, strawberry jam, frozen fruit cups, Christmas cookies, sewing sessions, beauty pageants, intense card games and naps on pillows on the living room floor in front of the wood stove.Margaret was one of the founders of Tri-State Tree Service, which is now known as Halter Tree Service or the Halter Group. She is still counted in the population of "Halterville" which still stands today because of all of the cloud blessings that she gave whenever a storm was approaching.Margaret is preceded in death by her loving husband, Maurice F. Halter, of 44 years as well as her son, Daniel M. Halter, and her brother Paul Ruppel.She is survived by her children, Sharon A. (Dave) Kiefer, Cathy E. (late Gary) Grow, Sarah J. (John) Richardson, Douglas A. (Karen) Halter, and Amy L. (M. Chris) Bruggeman all of Vincennes, Indiana, sister's, Betty Hesher of Lawrenceville, IL, Janet (Robert) Hess of Vincennes, Rita (Charles) Doll, Virginia (Steve) Donaldson of Vincennes and Linda Ruppel of Vincennes. Her surviving grandchildren include, Bart Kiefer, Megan Smith, Shauntri Hill, Coti Vaughn, Danielle Halter, Nick Halter, Brent Halter, Andrew (Drew) Richardson, Hannah Lovvorn, Jericho Quick, Zach Halter, Jessica Hamilton, Maddisyn Halter, Olivia Johnson and Xavier Bruggeman. Margaret also has twenty-eight great grandchildren with three on the way and one great- great grandchild.Friends may visit with Margaret's family from 4-8 pm on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at Old Cathedral Catholic Church, 205 Church Street, Vincennes, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at Old Cathedral Catholic Church with Rev. Tony Ernst celebrating. Margaret will be laid to rest next to her husband Maurice in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Alzheimer's Association or the Knox County Department of Children and Family Services.
