Marilyn Chattin

Marilyn E. Chattin, 89, of Vincennes, went to be with the Lord on April 27, 2016.Marilyn was born Feb. 7, 1927, in Knox County, IN. She was the daughter of Harry Walter Nolting and Audrey (Thompson) Nolting.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 50 years, Howard "Pete" Chattin; and her brother, Wallace Nolting.Surviving are daughters, Kathleen Chattin of Los Gatos, CA, and Beverly Adkins and her husband, Dean, of San Ramon, CA; and two grandchildren, John Adkins of San Francisco, CA, and Krissy Adkins of Seattle, WA.Marilyn was a graduate of Decker High School and Purdue University. She taught Home Economics and Physical Education at Decker High School, and was a girl's 4-H leader in Johnson Township. She taught 6th grade in Atlanta, GA and worked at Atlanta Federal Savings while her husband went to seminary at Emory University. They returned to Indiana where they lived in Wheatland, Charlestown, Huntingburg and Southport, ministering in Methodist churches.After her husband retired from the ministry, they moved back to Vincennes. Marilyn was employed in Vincennes at Knit and Needle for 10 years, and at Wabash Parts for 15 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Home Builders Class, United Methodist Women, and served on several committees. Marilyn was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and was on the Board at Grouseland Foundation for 5 years. She also served as a volunteer docent at the William Henry Harrison Mansion. Marilyn was also a member of the Meadowlark Homemakers Club. A cancer survivor, she walked in the Relay for Life Survivors' Lap for many years.Marilyn's funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 30, at 2:30, at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway, Vincennes, IN. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:30 - 2:30. A private family interment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery.The family would like to thank the staff of the Reflections Unit at Willow Manor and Gentiva Hospice.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grouseland Foundation.
