Mark Duckworth

February 1, 1949 — July 13, 2024

Mark Thomas Duckworth, a life-long resident of the Martinsville area, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2024, in Vincennes, Indiana.

Born February 1, 1949, in Martinsville, he was the son of the late Thomas B. and Doris M. (Bastin) Duckworth. His youth was spent on Duckworth Road in Paragon, Indiana, where he had no desire to follow in his father's footsteps working the farmland that had been in the family since the early 1800's. Mark graduated from Martinsville High School in 1967.

After graduation, Mark enlisted in the Indiana National Guard, serving for 6 years before finding work in the private sector. Following his marriage to Jayne E. Thomas in 1977, Mark re-joined the Guard and made it his career, working at the USPFO at Stout Field in Indianapolis until his retirement in 2004. In total, he served his country for 32 years 6 months and 2 days. Mark received several commendations while serving and retired as Master Seargeant.

Mark was a lifelong fan of motorsports, following IndyCar, Sprint Cars, NASCAR, and NHRA Drag Racing closely for many years. He maintained a large collection of die cast replica sprint, champ car, and Indy 500 cars. He spent many a weekend taking his young son to Paragon Speedway throughout the 80s.

Mark is survived by his son, Zane, daughter-in-law Rebecca (Clark) and grandsons, Bryn & Caleb all of Vincennes; two sisters, Rita Ennis, Martinsville, and Sue Ann Brown, Franklin; two nephews, two nieces and several great nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 3rd from 1-4 PM at The American Legion in Martinsville. All friends and family are encouraged to attend and share stories with the family.
