Mark Nelson

Mark Lee Nelson, 68, of Monroe City, IN passed away March 29, 2023. He was born on July 22, 1954, to the late Russell L. and Catherine M. (Stewart) Nelson. Mark was a graduate of the class of 1972 from South Knox High School. Mark, his brother Boyde, and several cousins have many fond memories growing up over the years together. He married the love of his life, Cathy (Gordon) Nelson, on May 27, 1980. Mark worked his entire life on the Nelson family farm that he proudly ran with his dad, Russell, for several years before passing it on to his son, Gordon. He was proud to tell anyone who would listen that his daughter, Nettie, is a nurse and granted him 2 grandsons to pass on his love for farming and tractors. Mark enjoyed watching and listening to St. Louis Cardinals baseball games, fishing, mushroom hunting, farming, collecting Farmall memorabilia, and spending time with his beloved family. You could always find him on the go spending time with his dog. He was a true family man who will be so deeply missed. Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Russell L. and Catherine M. (Stewart) Nelson. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Cathy Nelson; children, Gordon Nelson and Nettie (Eric) Wilson; grandchildren, Benjamin Wilson and Eli Wilson; brother, Boyde (Kate) Nelson; nieces, Amanda (Wade) Stokes and Melissa (Stephen) Rusch; nephew, Jason (Danene) Nelson; and many beloved cousins and other family members. Visitation will be held Monday, April 3, 2023, at Hamline Chapel Church from 11am-2pm. A funeral service will begin immediately after visitation at 2:00 pm with internment in Hamline Cemetery after the service.
