Marshall Miller

Marshall Eldon Miller, 76, 2004 Prospect Avenue, passed away Saturday, August 3, 2013 at his residence. Marshall was born December 9, 1936, in Vincennes, the son of Marvin and Adell (Routt) Miller. They preceded him in death.Survivors include his wife, Rona Baker, whom he married on September 22, 2001; his son, Brad Miller and wife Patricia of Short Hills, New Jersey; his daughter, Cathy Miller of Bellingham, Washington; his sister, Dr. Mardel Miller of Terre Haute, Indiana; his grandchildren, Jasper Miller and Xanthe Miller.Marshall was a member of the Lincoln High School Class of 1955, and a United States Air Force Veteran having served from 1959-1962. He was a successful painting contractor, owner and President of Marvin E. Miller, Inc. for many years. He was a former president of the Vincennes Jaycees and also a member of the Elks and the Harmony SocietyMarshall, the recipient of the 1993 Civitan Citizen of the Year award and the Sagamore of the Wabash award, loved and served his community in numerous ways. He was President of the Vincennes City Council in the 1970's during which time he cofounded the Spirit of Vincennes Rendezvous and helped restart the Sister Cities program with Vincennes, France eventually making three official visits there.A skilled genealogist, Marshall was the local president of the Sons of the American Revolution and held various leadership positions in the SAR national organization. He was also a former president of the Northwest Territory Genealogy Society and a member of the National Huguenot Society, the Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims, and the Society of Colonial Wars.A long time volunteer at the Indiana Military Museum, Marshall enjoyed contributing to the long anticipated launch of the museum at its new location. He was also active in the USS Vincennes Association.He and wife, Rona, were members of First Christian Church in Vincennes.Funeral services for Marshall Miller will take place at 10:00 am on Monday, August 12, 2013 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway with the Rev. Paul Wagner officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with Marshall's family from 2-6 pm on Sunday at the funeral home.
