Marvel Ransford

Marvel May Ransford, 94, of 2706 E. Catt Rd., Decker, passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at Good Samaritan Hospital. She was born May 3, 1916, in Hastings, Iowa, the daughter of William Elsworth and Veva Ellen (Kelso) Judah.Marvel had worked at Mid West Fertilizer as a secretary. She was a member of First Christian Church. She loved to work crossword puzzles and watch NBA basketball, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.Survivors include her grandchildren, Robin Helderman, Lori Litherland and Curt Helderman all of Vincennes and Amy Mercer of Decker; eleven great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.Preceding Marvel in death were her parents; husband, James Granville Ransford, whom she married on August 8, 1944 and he passed away November 24, 1973; daughter, Elizabeth Vieke; one great-grandson; five brothers and three sisters.A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 18 at First Christian Church, 319 Broadway St. Graveside services will take place on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Rick Grant officiating.
