Marvin Bert "Shorty" Clark, 97, passed away peacefully at his Monroe City home on Saturday, June 23, 2018.Marvin and his twin brother Maurice were born on January 26, 1921 to A. Bert Clark and Irene (Myers) Clark. He graduated from Monroe City High School in 1939. He joined the United States Navy and served our country in the Pacific Ocean during WWII as a Machinist's Mate, Third Class. On September 1, 1953 Marvin married his sweetheart Irene (Shake) Clark. They raised their two children Michael W. Clark and Suzanne (Clark) Sievers on their family farm.Marvin was preceded in death by his son, Michael W. Clark; great grandson, Noah Briggeman; parents, Bert and Irene Clark; brother, Maurice Clark, and his sister, Maxine Clark.Marvin is survived by his loving wife Irene, of nearly 65 years; his daughter, Suzanne (Paul) Sievers; Shorty's grandchildren, Andy Clark, Carla Clark, Jake (Brandy) Murry, Miriam (Jordan) Briggeman, Alicia (Harold) Alumbaugh, and Aaron Clark, Shorty's great grandchildren, Victoria and China Clark; Isaac, Eli, and Anna Briggeman, Jaelee and Elliah Murry, Kenley Clark, and Lori and Bryce Alumbaugh.Shorty loved many things in his long life such as playing, watching, and umpiring baseball, playing cards, farming, raising livestock, Tick's pool room, playing catch, his border collie, Maggie, and helping others. Shorty was a quiet, gentle farmer with a huge heart. His family and friends will miss him greatly but will cherish the years of memories they share.Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Thursday June 28, 2018 at Goodwin Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Nielson officiating. Burial will follow in the Walnut Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from Noon until the service time Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Hospice or the Blue Jean Center.
