It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Hare, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, who departed this life on December 25, 2024, at the age of 87. Born on December 21, 1937, in Crawford County, Illinois, Mary lived a life filled with compassion, devotion, and a passion for music that resonated throughout her community.

Mary’s unwavering faith was a cornerstone of her life. An active member of the United Methodist Church from a young age, she began playing the piano in church services at just 13 years old. Music was a continual thread woven through her life, and she proudly served as a pianist and singer in the church choir, bringing joy and inspiration to many. Her commitment to her church extended beyond music; she was a dedicated friend to many and an exemplary witness for Christ, embodying love and generosity in her everyday life.

Professionally, Mary built a successful career as a bank officer and bookkeeper, reflecting her intelligence and diligence. Throughout her journey, she moved from Illinois to Kentucky, and later to Indiana, always making new friends and touching lives along the way.

Mary leaves behind a cherished family who will carry on her legacy of love. She is survived by her sons, Michael Blacker and Jeffery Blacker and his wife Rachel, along with her beloved grandchildren; Chantelle Parks, Amy Blacker, and David Blacker. Her legacy continues with her great-grandchildren, Christian Johnson, Liliana Zelaya, and RJ Blacker.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Nelson and Amanda (Hout) Purcell; grandson Robert Blacker; siblings, Ina Mae Stafford and Richard Purcell.

Friends may visit with Mary's family from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Saturday, January 4 at the Walnut Grove United Methodist Church, 1339 East Governor's Road, Monroe City, IN.
