With grace and dignity, Mary Lee Goodman, born on July 8, 1937, in Sullivan, IN, and resident of Owensville, Indiana, passed away on December 22, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She was also visited by special niece Linda Smith and nephews Ken Smith and Monty Joe McKinley and family right before passing. A cherished mother, and an admired member of her community, Mary's radiant spirit and unwavering determination touched countless lives. Born to Ralph and Marie (Gentry) Williams, Mary embodied the values of hard work, compassion, and resilience throughout her entire life. She was also a woman of strong faith and was baptized at First Baptist Church in Sullivan.
Mary married the love of her life, Fred Goodman, on December 24, 1959. Together, they created a life rich with laughter, love, and shared dreams. As a proud graduate of Sullivan High School, Mary spent several years serving her community at the Sullivan County Courthouse as a devoted county clerk. Her dedication to her role was mirrored in her commitment to her family, as she gracefully embraced the joys of motherhood, raising her five sons with an abundance of love and care. In her spare time she took great pride in sewing.
Mary is survived by her sons, Michael Clerk and his wife Michelle, Kevin Clerk and his wife Margaret, Mitch Goodman and his wife Joan, Patrick Goodman and his wife Karla, Scott Goodman and his wife Jeanie, brother-in-law, Rex McKinley, ten grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Mary is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Ralph and Marie Williams, her adored husband, Fred Goodman, sister, Lois Ann Smith and her husband Wayne, sister Nancy McKinley and two nephews Doug McKinley and Jimmy Smith.
As we bid farewell to Mary, we invite you to attend her graveside service as we celebrate Mary's life at 10:00 am EST on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at Center Ridge Cemetery in Sullivan, IN. Pastor David Cox will officiate and Mary will be laid to rest next to her husband Fred. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
